Northern Eyes Whisky
The Pride of Edmonton
As far as aged whisky goes, three years may not seem like a long time. However, in Edmonton’s very new craft distilling industry, three years is not only significant – it’s historic!
Handcrafted by distiller Kris Sustrik using 100% Alberta rye, and aged for three years in a single American oak barrel.
Proofed down to 43% ABV
Nose: pear, leather, and tobacco
Palate: savoury and spicy with notes of dark caramel, mild vanilla, black pepper, and caramelized banana.
Finish: crisp with spiced pear while the barrel char and mild tobacco notes linger long afterwards
Frequently Asked Questions

Northern Eyes Whisky will be available for purchase starting at 1pm MST on Tuesday, February 11, 2020.
Where can we purchase a bottle?
Northern Eyes Whisky will initially and exclusively be available at Hansen Distillery in Edmonton, Alberta for the initial release. Following the initial release, we may extend sales to our online shop and preferred retail partners. We will update general availability of Northern Eyes Whisky on our website and social media.
Why is it only available at the distillery initially?
The first batch will be available exclusively at the distillery. This is our way of getting the whisky in the hands of the good people of Edmonton and area who were our first supporters. Subsequent barrels will be open for sale online across Canada and potentially at select retail locations. If/when retail partners are known, we will list them on our website.
What is the price of a bottle?
$69 plus GST

No there won’t be limits, however we ask any retailers interested in becoming a preferred retail partner to email firstname.lastname@example.org for additional information.
What is the Northern Eyes Whisky alcohol percentage?
The Northern Eyes Whisky has been proofed down from 65% (in cask) to 43%.
Can I pre-order or hold a bottle?
We will not be offering pre-orders or holds of the first barrel of the Northern Eyes Whisky.
How many bottles do you expect to be available for sale?
Approximately 500 bottles from the January and February casks will be available.
What makes this the first Canadian Craft whisky to come from Edmonton?
To qualify as a Canadian whisky, the spirit must be barrel aged for a minimum of three years. Northern Eyes Whisky is a 100% rye-based spirit that has been produced and aged at Hansen Distillery. The spirit has been barrel aged in a single, American oak barrel for the prerequisite three years. No neutral spirits. No blending. Northern Eyes Whisky is made right, right here in Edmonton, Alberta and the first craft Canadian whisky to come from a craft producer in the municipality of Edmonton.
Why are you gifting the first bottle to the City of Edmonton?
With your help, we are making history with the release of the first craft Canadian whisky to come from the municipality of Edmonton. As thanks to the good people of Edmonton for such love and support of our young distillery, we wanted to give a gift so the City of Edmonton can archive the bottle and preserve this piece of history.
With so few bottles available for sale, is it guaranteed I will be able to purchase a bottle if I come on February 11 for the public launch?
The Northern Eyes Whisky will be sold to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis. We wanted to give as many people as fair a chance possible to get their bottle. While we expect it to be busy, and there could be wait times and lines, we do hope to get as many people a bottle as possible. However, there are no guarantees on when we may sell out – it could be that day, or it could be later in the week. We will be providing regular updates on social media as to the status of how many bottles are available, so please keep watch there.
We are planning to come down on February 11 for the public launch, but it sounds like it might be busy. What should I expect?
We are doing our best to anticipate how many people may be joining us for the public launch. We do expect some wait times and short lines, however we will be only offering bottle sales this day, so we expect any lines to move quickly.
PARKING – we do have a limited number of parking spots available at the distillery. We expect this lot to be FULL between 11 am and 2 pm. Following this, parking spots will become available as people come and go. You may have to find an alternative parking space, or there may be short wait times while parking becomes available.
WAIT TIMES – due to our venue capacity, we can only allow so many people INSIDE the distillery. The line up will begin INDOORS at approximately 1pm once the doors open.
WEATHER – in the chance we have inclement weather, our priority is the safety of our guests and customers. We will be able to allow a certain number of people indoors to start the lineup at 1 pm. Once we reach capacity, the lineup will need to continue outdoors. Please dress for the weather in the chance there is an outdoor lineup.
