It is with heavy hearts that we are placing Hansen Distillery up for sale. For the last seven years, we have been committed to sharing the spirit of Alberta, and the legacy of our family with each and every one of you. The root of our business has always been our family values and the importance of coming together and persevering during hard times.
Over the past seven years, we have shared countless laughs, memories, and products with each and every one of our customers, our regulars, and one another. We’ve endured the rollercoaster of shutdowns and government restrictions, reopenings, and the downturn of the economy. However, the one thing that has changed the most is our family, and more specifically, the birth of our two children.
Running a small business, at any time, takes time and energy, and a wholehearted devotion to the business and the brand. When we started Hansen seven years ago, we were able to commit ourselves, day in and day out to the building of our business, and we are so proud of what we accomplished. However, we can no longer devote the same time and energy to our business that it deserves, without compromising our values and our time with our family. We want to be able to make memories and spend time with our children as they grow. We have made the difficult decision to place our business up for sale so that we can allow the Distillery to have the same energy and enthusiasm that we put into it so many years ago.
As one of our Hansen values, family has always come first. Whether that’s the team in the distillery that we’ve felt has turned into family, the customers that have turned into friends, or our immediate family, we’ve always ensured that we have time and space for each of you. We’ve celebrated new beginnings, weddings, anniversaries, date nights, and products with you. We’ve celebrated holidays and special occasions and personal successes and disappointments – we’ve laughed and cried. It’s time to offer that same time and space to our own children.
We want to thank our staff, past and present, for the hard work, dedication, and efforts that you put into growing Hansen Distillery into what it is today. We’ve watched you grow up, and your families grow, and witnessed you forging new paths into professions outside of the hospitality industry that we know you will contribute to in the most incredible way.
We also want to thank our farmers, our local business partners, and customers for your continued support and commitment. Because of you, we’ve made Edmonton’s first whisky and grown our whisky program into what it is today. Because of you, we made a splash in the cream liqueur industry and assured people that they can have flavour without compromising taste. Because of you, we have always believed that quality trumps quantity, and have always been committed to making high-quality spirits made from real ingredients, by hand, every single time. It is our hope that whoever the new owner is, the commitment to creating first-rate spirits will remain unchanged.
As we head into the holiday season, we want to reassure our customers that our doors remain open. There will be no changes to hours, our team, or our products. You can still visit us for your favourite cocktail, stock up on your favourite spirits, and try new ones (we have a few exciting releases in the pipeline!) We want to see your smiling faces and continue to celebrate the holidays with you. Small businesses need you this holiday season. Join us for a cocktail (or three) and pick up a bottle or two.
And when you gather around the holiday tables this season, with friends and family, remember to take a moment to take it all in. Kids grow up too fast, and parents grow old too quickly. Make memories with one another, raise a glass in a toast, and celebrate occasions large and small.
